A
Gwent schoolboy has become the 1000th to
go through Dewstow's ambitious scheme aimed at giving 2010 children the chance
to try golf before the start of the 2010 Ryder Cup.
The Welsh u16
side produced a good performance in the Netherlands finishing in second
place and just losing out to Ireland on game points. Starring for Wales were
Oliver Mottram and Otto Mand (Dewstow) who both performed heroically with
Oliver unbeaten with 5 wins and a half and Otto with 3 wins.

Gwent provided
three boys in the Welsh under 16 side that played Yorkshire at Conwy. Pick
of the bunch was Otto Mand (Dewstow) who won his singles and halved his
foursomes match, whilst Alex Price (Llanwern) picked-up a win in the
foursomes and was beaten in the singles. The third member was Oliver Mottram
(Dewstow) who lost both his matches. Still, a great achievement for the boys
in a match that ended in a 9-9 half.
Cheque presented to SCOPE CYMRU
£800 was raised by holding
raffles, donations and by the charity bunker and by the generosity of the ladies
section and members of Dewstow.
The cheque was presented to Mrs Suzanne
Jones (Director of SCOPE CYMRU)
On 19th October, a cheque for £2800 was presented to Ellen
Blanks from Diabetes UK Cymru by the Immediate Past Captain, Chris Butler. This
sum was raised during Chris's captaincy during 2008/9. Thanks go to all involved
for their tremendous efforts in raising such a great sum of money.
A certificate was presented to Dewstow in recognition of their
efforts.

Gwent Junior Final at Newport GC
'On Sunday 4th October 2009
Dewstow Golf Club Junior 3rd Team won the 2009 Gwent Junior League
County title at the Regional Final, held at Newport Golf Club.
This being the first time that
the County the title has been won by Dewstow. The six man team event
was Medal Stroke play with the winning team having the lowest combined
aggregate score of the best gross and 4 out of the 5 other best net
scores from the team's players.
Dewstow won the title by 9 shots
helped by a highly impressive performance by Otto Mand who shot a
Gross 70 (2 under par round), his fellow competitors who all
contributed to win the team event included Joshua Davies, Dan Webb,
Ben Smith, Stuart Shalliday and Liam Wilson.
Dewstow will now be representing
Gwent at the Golf Union of Wales 'SWALEC Junior Challenge National
Final', to be held on Wednesday 28th October at Builth Wells Golf
Club'.
