CAPTAIN FOR
A YEAR
Where does the time go? Last March I took up my role as
captain looking forward to my year in office full of
excitement and expectation.
Looking back I can honestly say I have not been
disappointed. I have had a fantastic year as captain seeing
two of our three teams gaining promotion and all other
events and functions go to plan.
My first official appointment was to support our then ladies
captain Jenny Sayer at Llanwern Golf Club where Dewstow's
ladies golfers had their success recognised and rewarded.
My second official representation was to be introduced as
Dewstow's incoming captain to the Gwent Golfing Union.
At this event I was thrilled to make my introductory speech
as new captains are expected to do.
I was particularly pleased to report to the county that
Dewstow Golf Club had been fortunate to gain a number of new
members. As other captains were reporting losses in
membership this proves that at Dewstow we have something to
be justifiably proud of.
"A membership, environment and facilities that are the envy
of golf clubs across Wales. Long may this continue".
Our junior section have performed fantastically. The
introduction of the 2010 by 2010 initiative continues to
flourish and will undoubtedly add more success to an already
successful section.
Our ladies have again proved to be a force to be reckoned
with and continue to be a section envied by most other clubs
in the county if not the country.
The seniors prove that you are never to old to be
effective.
I had a fantastic away day with this section where both
myself and our vice captain Ian were made warmly welcome.
As captain I hope that I have been accessible to all.
I know that I have had many opportunities to talk to
visiting golf societies as they have walked off the
eighteenth green. You wont be surprised to be told that all
of them when asked "Have you enjoyed your golf" replied in a
very positive manner.
We know don't we that we have two golf courses to be
justifiably proud of.
Both the Valley and Park courses continue to be developed
and worked upon in order to maintain the quality that
befits such a fantastic facility.
During my year as captain I have been assisted and supported
fantastically by to many people to mention in this report.
Never the less I would like to take this opportunity to
thank the owners, management, all members, employees and
visitors to Dewstow Golf Club for making my year as Captain
unforgettable.
Please continue to enjoy your golf and the facility that is
Dewstow Golf Club for both the Golf and social life which
continue to flourish. .

We are very excitied about the year ahead, and who wouldn't be
with one of the world's largest sporting events due to take
place just a few miles down the road at Celtic Manor later

Between now and then we are focused on promoting our club to

Wales.
